Cortijo El Azahar, Bedar

Welcome to your own corner of paradise! Completely private, rural cortijo set among orange groves, overlooking the village of Bedar with excellent views of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range and the Mediterranean sea.

This beautiful cortijo features numerous orange, lemon, olive and almond terraces on a two-acre site.  There is also a ramped entrance through the back of the property. In the courtyard, accessed from the kitchen and sitting room, there is a traditional built-in pizza oven and barbecue: perfect to try out homemade pizza, pork ribs or barbecued trout with freshly picked lemons.

There are sofas and comfy chairs on the entrance terrace overlooking the gated pool and jacuzzi (not heated) with wonderful views back to Mojacar pueblo, the Sierra Cabrera and the sea.

Please note, access is down a steep private road not suitable for novice nervous drivers or minibuses to a private parking area where steps then lead you down to the wide entrance terrace.

Ground Floor

The double front doors open into a traditionally styled kitchen/dining area with beamed ceiling, breakfast bar, Andalusian shelving, gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge (there’s a second fridge/freezer in the adjacent pantry), football table and log burner.

The main reception room is found on a split level. There’s English and Spanish TV channels, a selection of DVD’s and a Google Chromecast.

There’s a spacious ground floor double bedroom with french doors to the courtyard off the main reception room, a downstairs shower room, separate toilet and a study/single bedroom.

First Floor

On the first floor, the roomy master bedroom has a Juliette balcony with panoramic sea/mountain views and an ensuite shower room.  There are three other bedrooms on the first floor, a double with french windows onto a private east facing terrace and two twin bedrooms. These three rooms share the adjacent family bathroom which includes a power shower.

All bedrooms and living areas have air conditioning and the two reception rooms have log burners for those colder winter evenings. The cortijo has mosquito screens fitted on the windows with rejas on the outside. There is WiFi throughout.

Cleaning/Towels/Linen/Maid Services

Towels and linen included. Property will be cleaned on arrival and departure. Additional cleans and linen changes available at extra cost.

Outside

The gated pool terrace has a 8m x 4m private pool, sun loungers, shady pergola and a heated jacuzzi. There are numerous terraces to explore and a mini tennis/ball court.

Local Area

The village of Bedar can be reached on foot from the cortijo in 15 minutes: the first part of the track is a little steep before joining a tarmac road. With its bars, restaurants, shops, weekly market, bank and gymnasium it has all your local needs.

This property is the ideal base for exploring the region including the local miners walks, the beaches of Mojacar playa or the more secluded beaches of Cabo de Gata.  Alternatively visit Nijar for the pottery and local rugs or cool down with a guided tour of the spectacular limestone caves near Sorbas.

Coast/Beach

Numerous beaches within a 25 minute drive, including family beaches, water sports and a water park (Aquavera, Parque Acuático) in Vera.
